The Omaha Poker Game (aka Omaha HoldEm Poker)

Rules | Strategy

The Omaha poker game is not as complex as many people assume. If you know how to play Texas Hold'Em then you essentially know how to play Omaha poker.

There are two crucial differences in game play however (we'll cover the complete Omaha poker rules on the Omaha Rules page). In Omaha poker you're dealt four cards instead of two, and your winning hand has to have two hole cards and three cards from the board.

As you might expect, the fact that players receive four cards instead of two means that the winning hands in Omaha are usually much better than winning hands in Hold'em. As a result it is critical to only draw to the best hands and not to the low end of straights and little flushes.

Why Play Omaha High?

Omaha High is a great choice when you're learning because it often attracts newbies. Small limit Omaha HoldEm poker players also tend to play poorly, perhaps because they're not used to the slight but significant difference from Omaha's Texas cousin.

Once you master the Omaha poker rules and some strategy basics Omaha will become your favorite game. Why? Because you're going to win big at it.
