Poker Blind Rules: Small Blind and Big Blind Poker

Blinds are used by many poker games as an alternative to an ante. Instead of starting with everybody putting in the same amount a set number of people have to make their opening bets without looking at their cards – hence, Blinds…

Blind bets, or blinds, force new table entrants to pay a blind bet. They are then placed in a rotation and don’t have to pay an initial bet until their turn comes up again.

In each hand one player at the table places the big blind and the player to his right places the small blind. The small blind is typically half the size of the big. You pay whether you like your cards or not.

Other players must call or raise the blind. Or they can fold, without having put in any money (they’ve already taken their blind turns…).

Poker Blind Rules: Texas Hold’Em Blinds

If there weren’t Texas Hold’Em blinds players would just wait for pocket aces all day long. If you’re playing from the blinds you’re in a tricky position. You’re forced to put money on potentially bad hands, and when one of your opponents raises you try and catch up. You end up getting beaten by good hands.
