Poker Odds Strategy: Playing With Poker Statistics

Understanding poker hand odds in betting is critical to knowing when to bet and how much to bet. Poker statistics are complex but crucial in playing winning poker. Understanding Texas Hold’em Poker odds requires similar calculations.

Starting Hands

If you understand that your odds of winning are greatly impacted by the cards you start with then overall you’ll end up winning more than you lose. Read our starting hands page for more details.

Your starting hands also greatly affect your Texas Hold’em Poker odds.

Poker Hand Odds: The Odds of Winning

The Odds of Winning are the odds that your hand is going to win, and the odds you’ll get the cards you think you need in order to win. The odds of winning are important because you need to understand these odds in relation to pot odds and implied odds.

This study of poker statistics enables your complete poker odds strategy, and is crucial to understanding your Texas HoldEm Poker odds too.

The odds of you making your hand can be quickly calculated by looking at how many cards will give you the hand you want and dividing that by the number of cards you can’t see.

For example: If you have four cards to a flush and there is one card left to come then you have 9 cards that will make your hand out of 46 cards. This means you have 1 out of 5 chance of getting the card you need.

Be sure to calculate your odds of winning when figuring your Texas HoldEm Poker odds too!

Pot Odds

The dollar amount in the pot versus the amount you have to pay to stay in. For the example above if there’s ten dollars in the pot and you need to bet 2 dollars to stay in it’s a good bet, but if you have to bet 3 dollars to stay in it’s a bad bet.

Over time, this slight difference in your bet will add up to either winning or losing.

Implied Odds

The pot odds you can expect after everyone bets. These odds are based on the assumption of the betting of the rest of the players.
