The high number of betting rounds make 7 card stud quite popular, and it makes plain the attraction of 7 card stud high/low, in which the pot is split between the highest and lowest hands.

A Little about How 7 Card Stud high/low Works

In hi/lo stud you're dealing with only seven cards, and with these you try to make the best of high or best of low hands at the table. If there's no qualifying low hand then the best high hand wins.

Low cards include cards that are eight or lower, with the ace counting as the lowest. We'll discuss more of the qualifications of a low hand in the rules section.

Working with What You Have: 7 Card Stud high/low

Getting into 7 card stud hi/lo is easier than you may think, though. There are no community cards as in games like Hold'em and Omaha, and players must win with the five of the seven cards they're dealt. Three of the cards are dealt face down and four are face up.
